Father's Day Weekend

It was a pretty dreary weekend, but it didn't rain as much as we were expecting and the sun actually came out for a bit, so all in all, we had a great Father's Day Weekend!

On Saturday, we met up with the whole fam for a hike to Portage Island. It was such an odd experience. The island is located between the end of the Lummi Reservation and Lummi Island. During low tide, there is a land bridge making the island accessible by foot (or by truck.) Kim has been there before (years ago) and we thought it seemed like a fun adventure. The island is uninhabited, and covered in oysters, clams, and lots of blue herons! It was a very pretty walk. Unfortunately, the few people we encountered were either drunk and recklessly driving an ATV or very unfriendly and made it very clear that we were not supposed to be there because we aren't Lummi (although there wasn't a sign at the parking lot and the island is owned by Whatcom County.) And someone backed into Kim and Thane's car and left a huge dent. So we will probably never go back.

We spent the rest of the afternoon doing yard work and then headed over to Berthusen Park for a Toastmasters barbecue.

Sunday was pretty low-key. The girls were excited to give Kyle the gifts/cards they had made and then we went on a family bike ride to the park. We left about 2 minutes too late and got drenched on our way home!

Haleigh made a BBQ spice rub at school!

Annaliese put together a book with a note and a few puzzles in it.

We wrapped up the weekend with a steak dinner and a family movie! It was a good weekend and we are grateful for the dads in our lives!

It's the End of the School Year!

We made it to the end! School wrapped up last week with lots of fun activities at school!

Annaliese's class wrapped up with a 5th-grade barbecue. She said they ate hot dogs and had lots of free time outside. In her class, she won the genre award for reading the most books from different genres this year.

Haleigh's class celebrated with a few games, certificates for everyone, and a tasty lunch. Her teacher isn't coming back next year and we will all miss her dearly.

So fun having these three in class together!

Lydia's class had their party on Wednesday. They had a pinata, played outside, and had a yummy lunch!

Last day of Kindergarten!

We are so grateful for such incredible teachers this year. They all invested so much in each of our girls and were able to give them so much love and attention, each in the way they most needed it! While we are very ready for summer break, we are also very aware of how special it is to have teachers who care so much for our kids!

Spring Soccer

Annaliese has been playing soccer this Spring with Lynden Action. Her team, the Green Gators, hasn't won a game all season, but Annaliese has improved a lot. It's fun to see how aggressive she has become and her awareness of what's happening on the field is obvious. She's scored several goals as well, which is always fun!

Overall, Annaliese was pretty frustrated with how the season went and she is hoping for a better season in the fall. Really, what she would like is for Kyle to coach and her teammates to put a little more effort into the game. (And to be honest, I think it would be super fun for Kyle to coach!)

On the plus side, we made it through an entire season of spring soccer and only had a little bit of rain for one game! That's pretty much a miracle here in the PNW!!

Field Day

On Friday, the 1st-8th grades had Field Day! The middle schoolers did track and field events, complete with relays and ribbons. Annaliese participated in a relay, soccer accuracy, football punting, bocce ball, and the long jump. Her team came in second place overall. They didn't need any parent volunteers, so I didn't get to see how this went, but she said it was 'pretty fun.' She did think the elementary field day was better😀

The 1st-4th graders were divided up into teams and rotated through a bunch of stations with different games. They played Gaga Ball, tossed water balloons, did obstacle courses, and launched chickens, to name a few of the activities. I was a team leader for Haleigh's team and it was so fun!

May

Well shoot, here it is, already several days into the month of June. I just looked back and I only wrote one blog post during May! Let me just flip back through the camera roll and see what things filled our time! In addition to all the photos, I found quite a few home videos showing lots of cartwheels and a few 'tours' of our house! Also, when the camera settings get changed without realizing it, all the pictures get taken a bit smaller!

And with that, we've arrived at the month of June. We have one more week of school before we head into summer vacation. Our goal is to finish up strong!
