We spent most of Christmas Day at Grandpa and Grandma's house. We did a few family pictures, opened stockings, and spent most of the day letting the kids open presents.
Impromptu dance party? |
Mom and Dad are heading down to Arizona with their trailer for a few months, so one of our presents was a surprise long-weekend trip to AZ. Grandma and Grandpa put together a scavenger hunt for the kids, complete with 'boarding passes' and tickets to the Phoenix Zoo!
They all found puzzle pieces to a map of Arizona! |
Following the clues... |
Now that the kids can read, it was so fun to watch their minds work as they read their clues, figured out where to go next, and eventually realize that they all get to fly to Arizona together! The trip sounds even better now that we've spent days and days with temperatures below freezing!!
We ended our day of Christmas festivities by leaving all the cousins at Grandma and Grandpa's house for a sleepover. Kyle and I were hoping to get up to Mt. Baker to go cross-country skiing the next day, but the weather was freezing and windy with very icy roads. So instead of skiing, I cleaned the house!
It was a fantastic Christmas and we are so blessed! We worked our way through an Advent devotional most of the month of December and Annaliese memorized Luke 2:1-20 at school. Each year, Christmas is becoming more and more fun as we get to be more intentional with our conversations and the girls learn more about what we are really celebrating! Without the birth of Jesus, we would have no reason to celebrate, no reason to find hope amidst all of the conflict we are surrounded by, and no reason to pursue relationships and fellowship with others.
