August

It's hard to believe that today is the last day of August and also the last day of summer vacation. Kyle and I were laying in bed last night talking about how quickly the summer went and also how good of a summer it was. Despite all things Covid related, we had a lot of fun! We spent a lot of time bike-riding, playing with cousins, and hanging out outside! We bought a house mid-August so the past few weeks have been spent working on it (more on that in a different post) but otherwise, things haven't really felt too different. That being said, we are also very ready for school to start tomorrow and to settle into a bit of a new routine.

Kyle and I were able to get away for a weekend to celebrate our 11th anniversary. We stayed at a friends house out on Whidbey Island and spent time staring at the ocean, watching porpoises, hiking, talking about the new house, and relaxing.

Playing cards and staring at the ocean!

Hiking around Fort Ebay State Park

Watching the sunset...Happy Anniversary!
When we came home, the girls surprised us with an anniversary dinner served out in the garden. They invited us to the Bellingham Hillside Restaurant and served the chef's special (steak, salad and grilled veggies.) They took our order, refilled our drinks, and cleared our dishes when we were all done. They even had music playing at our table!

The girls and Grandpa and Grandma ate outside too...and enjoyed the same tasty food!

Here's a glimpse at some of the other pictures from the month:

Annaliese planned a family picnic at Lake Padden, complete with biking, stand-up paddleboarding, and grilled hamburgers!

I have no idea where this is...but it looks like this little crew of bikers found a blackberry patch!

Trying out the new pump track in Lynden.

We made it up to Mt. Baker once this summer for a short hike to Bagley Lakes. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot of other people who had the same idea as we did!

The Ninth Annual Gillette-Feffer-Prentice Get-together

After spending a few days with Grandpa and Grandma Gillette, we rented a car and drove to San Jose for our annual weekend get-together with Feffer's and Prentice's. Because Adam and Ashlie just finished an addition on their house,  we thought it would be fun to all gather there this year.  They eagerly welcomed us into their home and we had a great time! It didn't take long for the kids to all start playing well together and they had no trouble entertaining themselves!!

Malachi and Lydia

Friday we packed a lunch and went on a hike through the redwoods.

There were lots of fun bridges over the stream.

We filled our time at the house with eating good food, playing with fun toys, riding bikes, basically just having fun together!

Their own version of Air Hockey.

Hanging out with the chickens.

Sunday morning church

Russ and Jenn opted to just come for the day on Saturday and we planned on spending the majority of the day outside. The dads played basketball, we all played foursquare, we ate good food,  we drank watermelon beer, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time together and catching up with one another. It's pretty special to have friends that commit to getting together every year, despite the distance between us!
