Whidbey Island 10K

About this time last year, I ran the Whidbey Island Half-Marathon, so for the past few months I've periodically received emails encouraging me to sign up for the race again this year. I have been running here and there, and while I am in no shape to run a half marathon, I decided that it would be fun to run the 10K instead.

My parents agreed to watch the girls (and Shelby) so Kyle and I could spend the night and have a little getaway. We dropped the girls off yesterday mid-morning with Grandpa and Grandma and headed out. This is prime tulip time in the Skagit Valley, so we started off with lunch at a little diner in La Conner and then drove through the tulip fields.

We then made our way to Oak Harbor and the event expo to pick up my race packet before heading to our hotel. We relaxed for a short while (we were hoping to make use of the hot tub at the hotel, but it was closed.) and then headed into downtown Anacortes to a little hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant for dinner. After dinner, we went for a walk through the marina and talked about how we will never own a boat!

The reality of traveling without the kids...when one of the kids is a nursing infant!

The race was this morning so we headed out from the hotel and had a pleasant drive from our hotel down to the start line. After dropping me off, Kyle found several places along the course to cheer me on. The weather was almost perfect...a little too breezy to actually be perfect:) It was a beautiful course and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire run!
Trying to stay warm at the start!

I'm not so sure what to think about that ponytail...
(and my dad suggested that it would probably be
easier to run if I kept my eyes open!!)

All finished! They didn't mess around when it
came to the medals! That thing is huge!

Easter

I spent all of Easter weekend working, but Kyle hosted Easter lunch at our house and had Grandpa and Grandma and Kim, Thane and the boys over for lunch, an Easter egg hunt and some egg-dying activities. From the sound of it, everyone had a good time!

Unfortunately, the girls have all been fighting colds this week so we stayed home from church Sunday morning. We didn't think it would be nice to share all of the boogers with the whole church nursery!! This meant that we missed out on both the Good Friday service on Friday night and the Easter service on Sunday...it definitely made it a bit harder to remember the significance of this weekend, but it also made us be more intentional about talking about Jesus' death and resurrection with the girls!

7 Months

Lydia just reached the 7 month mark and all of a sudden she seems older. Maybe it's because I came home from work this past weekend and Kyle had gotten the highchair and the jumperoo set up. Or perhaps it's because we finally started feeding her solid foods! Regardless, Lydia is still a super happy, super content little kiddo who just goes with the flow!

Sleeping: Due to the inconsistency of our schedule, we don't have a set routine when it comes to naps, but bedtime seems to be getting more structured. She is usually in bed now by about 8:00 and will sleep until somewhere between 8-8:30 if I don't have to wake her up to get ready to bring Annaliese to school. She will usually take two good naps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each lasting 1-2 hours and then a short nap around dinner time.

That's my "Seven Months" sticker she's eating...
Eating: We recently began solid foods, and so far she's liked just about everything. We started with avocado followed by sweet potatoes. She did well with the avocado and spit the sweet potatoes out right away! Since then we've tried pears, bananas, applesauce, cheerios, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and a bit of our steak fajitas. The PB&J was accidental...Lydia got her hands on Haleigh's leftover sandwich and she loved it!!
As far as nursing goes, I feed her about 5 times during the day. She is still nursing really well, but she also takes a bottle with no problems!
Most food doesn't quite make it into her mouth!

Working on that PB&J!

Activities: Lydia is pretty content to do just about anything that anybody else is doing. I will frequently just sit her on the floor by Annaliese and Haleigh with a few toys in front of her and she is good to go! She also loves her jumperoo, bathtime, eating her toes, and putting just about anything into her mouth. Thankfully, she isn't making any attempts to crawl yet. In fact, I rarely see her roll over! Except for in her crib... the last several days she's been on her stomach when I went in to get her!
